The facts about laser skin rejuvenation

April 16, 2018

Skin rejuvenation refers to a group of professional treatments designed to visibly restore a healthier, more youthful look.

Our team of experts offers a number of options, always ensuring that the latest, best quality equipment is used. From microneedling to skin tightening and chemical peels, there really are a variety of treatments to choose from. One of the most effective methods, laser skin rejuvenation, or Fraxel, is becoming more and more popular, and for good reason — the technique can be used to treat a range of conditions including:

  • acne scarring
  • pores
  • pigmentation
  • wrinkles

All this, combined with the added bonus of improving overall skin tone and texture.

But what does laser skin rejuvenation actually involve? And does it really work? We take a look at this innovative treatment — here’s what you need to know…

What is Fraxel?

The leading brand in the field of laser skin rejuvenation, Fraxel is a fractionated laser resurfacing device. One of its key features is that the laser can be completely tailored to each patient’s skin type, so different areas of skin can be treated specifically to your unique needs. We have three types of Fraxel laser at Fiori Institute of Skin and Body, each of which is designed for slightly different results.

The Fraxel 1927 is a great choice for overall skin rejuvenation, and works by opening up pores, and repairing skin pigmentation and sun damage. The laser can also be used to treat mild wrinkles. The Fraxel 1550, on the other hand, may be recommended for acne scars, as well as deeper sun damage and wrinkles. The Fraxel Dual combines both the Fraxel 1927 and the Fraxel 1550 to improve overall texture and tone and reduce wrinkles.

How does it work?

The laser device works by delivering a specific wavelength to target various skin conditions. This means that different areas of skin can be treated according to your particular needs. The laser penetrates the skin at a deep level and by doing so, stimulates the production of collagen and reduces the appearance of wrinkles and lines.

Before you begin treatment, we will tailor a specific regime for you, based on your skin type, condition and desired outcome. The number of fractional laser treatments will also depend on your needs, and we’ll advise you of the plan that best suits you. In most cases, one or two treatments are sufficient to effectively rejuvenate the skin. If you would like to treat acne scarring or another condition, it may be necessary to undergo four or five treatment sessions.

What does the treatment feel like?

You shouldn’t feel any pain or discomfort during your treatment, as we will apply a specialist-strength local anaesthetic cream to your skin an hour before the procedure. This ensures that you remain comfortable throughout your treatment.

It is quite normal to feel as though you have been slightly sunburnt following treatment. You may also experience some mild redness after the procedure, and your skin will start to peel for two to four days after treatment. Depending on the type of treatment you have, full recovery can take anywhere from two to five days.
