Hormonal Pigmentation

MELASMA IS A form of hormonal pigmentation that is often difficult to treat. Dr Davin Lim, a laser and aesthetic dermatologist use combination therapy to improve pigmentation and skin texture. ‘The key to treating this form of pigmentation is the use of the very latest lasers that deliver energy in small bursts in combination with compounded vitamin A, B and C creams. 95% of melasma cases will start to show improvement within 2 weeks. As melasma is a chronic condition it is important to treat pigmentation, place the condition in remission, then tailor a melasma prevention program.\

Melasma can be variable in its presentation, some patients may have deeper pigmentation than others, the Ethnic race also plays a key role
in what treatment modality and what types of lasers I select. Brisbane, with its high UV index, has one of the highest rates of melasma in the World, however, with new technology and a better understanding of this condition, dermatologists are now in a better position to treat this once ‘untreatable condition’.
