Acne Scar Treatments Brisbane

Acne Scar Treatments in Brisbane

The Fiori Institute of Skin and Body is one of Brisbane's leading cosmetic acne scar treatment clinics. We provide a cost-effective method to effectively and efficiently treat your acne scarring.*

How successful are our acne scar treatments?

The truth is acne scarring is very hard to treat. At the Fiori Institute our trained dermal therapists give patients realistic expectations. With our scar revision procedures, patients can generally expect an improvement of 30% to 80%, depending on your scar type.*

What are the different acne scar types? Why is this important?

Acne scars can be either subjective or objective. They can also be classed as mild, moderate to severe, and can be further divided according to the type of acne scars. Some patients have very deep acne scars (also known as ice pick scars), while other patients have very shallow acne scars that are changes in skin colour.

Correctly identifying your scar type allows us to determine the most effective treatment plan and give you the best results.*

Acne Scaring Before & Afters

What do we use to treat acne scars?

At the Fiori Institute of the Skin and Body, we use the very latest in cosmetic acne treatments. This includes the Fraxel laser, as well as energy-based RF skin microneedling with the Intensif system. For mild acne scars, we use the Clear and Brilliant laser, as well as a series of chemical peels coupled with light therapy.

How do Fraxel lasers treat acne scarring?

There are four types of Fraxel lasers. At the Fiori Institute of Skin and Body, we only use three variants: the Fraxel 1927, the Fraxel 1550, and the Fraxel Clear and Brilliant. The fourth type of Fraxel is called the Re:Pair and is a specialist grade laser that is only used for severe scars, and requires sedation.

These lasers work by delivering columns of laser beams that only treat a select area of skin. This is also called fractionated laser resurfacing, and enables safer treatments and quicker healing times.*

What is RF microneedling and how does this differ from Fraxel or fractionated laser resurfacing?

Despite the similar name, microneedling is not the same as fractionated resurfacing. Many cosmetic clinics use this term to convey that this treatment is the same as using a Fraxel laser, but microneedling uses hundreds of tiny needles that enter the skin vertically. RF microneedling is a form of skin needling; however, the difference is that radiofrequency energy is delivered into the deeper layers of the skin. This energy reforms your collagen and breaks down acne scars.*

What is the preferred microneedling system at the Fiori Institute of Skin and Body?

Our preferred system was the EndyMed Intensif,  however after extensive trials by Dr Davin Lim we have now chosen the Infini RF Microneedling system as the treatment of choice for the majority of acne scars. Unlike The Intensif RF system, Infini RF uses insulated needles – this improves patients outcomes and decreases side effects such as skin colour changes. Infini RF uses Gold Plated insulated micro-diameter needles to effectively deliver focused radiofrequency energy deep into the layers of the skin to provide collagen remodelling. This is done with minimal discomfort and downtime. This type of treatment causes an overall improvement of acne scars including tethered and atrophic, as well as rolling acne scars.*

How many treatments will I need for my acne scar removal?

Treatments will vary, and depend on the type and severity of your acne scars. In general, between three to eight treatments are needed for optimal results. All of our treatments are custom-tailored to fit the patient’s scarring and expectations.*

Can laser or microneedling treatment suitable for all skin types and colours?

Yes, we should be able to safely treat all skin types using the EndyMed Intensif system.*

What is the recovery time following acne scar treatments?

The recovery time depends on many factors including the device we use, as well as your skin type, immunity healing rate, but most importantly, the energy levels we use.

As a guide, Fraxel laser skin resurfacing for acne scars requires approximately four to five days of healing time. The EndyMed PRO Intensif skin microneedling systems yields slightly shorter healing times of two to three days.*

What is the cost of acne scar removal treatments?

The Fiori Institute of Skin and Body provides cost effective treatments that are reliable and affordable.*

Treatments for acne scarring start at $449, though our treatments using the latest Fraxel laser skin resurfacing technology start at $489.

Are acne scar treatments claimable through private health insurance or Medicare?

No. While the Fiori Institute of Skin and Body has designed entry-level acne scar treatments that are affordable, these treatments are not claimable through Medicare.

For medical grade acne scar revision, Medicare rebates do apply. These high-level treatments can be provided by specialists such as Dr. Davin Lim.

Can laser therapy help with acne treatment?

Yes. In the past 10 years, there has been a trend towards low-level laser admission devices that produce a specific bacteria-killing wavelength.

This technology was first pioneered by Omnilux, which uses one blue light spectrum. Over the past two years, this has been improved with the use of Kleresca. This combines the use of a biophotonic agent – a cream that is activated with two spectrums of blue light. This provides a quicker course of action compared to the normal, low-level admission devices/Omnilux therapy that only use one spectrum of blue light.*
