Freckle Removal Brisbane

Freckle
Removal

Brisbane's high UV index predisposes its residents to develop freckles at an early age. At the Fiori Institute of Skin and Body, we have various chemical peels, lasers as well as lightening creams to help with diminishing and removing freckles.*

What causes freckles?

Freckling is partially genetic but is made worse with UV exposure. Though not everyone is prone to freckling, it is more common in patients with lighter skin. Freckles tend to worsen during the high UV months of spring and summer and tend to improve in the winter.

Can freckles be removed forever?

This answer is individual to each patient as it ultimately depends on genetics and your skin care regimen following your procedure. It is possible to have a 100% successful freckle removal; however, keeping your skin freckle free forever cannot be guaranteed.

What do skin experts use to treat freckles?

Freckles can be removed with a variety of techniques, including old-fashioned IPL, lasers,
chemical peels and creams.

At the Fiori Institute, we do not like to use IPL because it is truly an all-or-nothing treatment. This means that IPL delivers complete freckle removal without feathering.

We believe that lasers, such as the Fraxel laser or the Clear + Brilliant, coupled with fading creams are a better solution as it provides patients with more natural looking results.*

How does the Fraxel laser remove freckles?

At the Fiori Institute, we use the Fraxel laser and the Clear + Brilliant laser for fractionated laser resurfacing treatments. These highly precise instruments use micro-columns of laser beams to target the freckle pigment on the surface of the skin. The amount of freckling removed can be controlled by what is known as the density, in other words, the number of passes we make on the skin. This laser is gentle, so freckle removal can be used on all skin types, including ethnic and Asian skin.*

What does freckle removal using Fraxel involve?

This procedure is called ‘nonablative fractional laser resurfacing’ because your skin is
still intact after the procedure.

First, a numbing cream is placed on the selected treatment area(s) 45 minutes before your appointment. This ensures that the entire process is painless. Then a dermal specialist uses a Zimmer cooler to help cool down the skin whilst a rolling device is placed on your skin. Fraxel laser beams then target the upper part of your skin while leaving the lower dermal parts untouched.*

What will I look like after Fraxel freckle removal?

Your skin will be slightly red after your Fraxel laser treatment. Over the following three to four days your skin will gently peel, revealing fresh, younger looking, freckle-free skin.*

How many laser freckle treatments will I require?

This will depend on your expectations and outcomes. Most patients will require two sessions; however, if you want complete freckle removal, four to five sessions may be required.*

How do I maintain my freckle-free skin after my procedure?

At the Fiori Institute of Skin and Body, we have our freckle-free program that makes use of specific sunscreens with antioxidants and vitamins for your skin.

We also encourage our patients to book gentle TCA peels on a monthly basis. Alternatively, glycolic acid or lactic acid peels can also help diminish pigmentation. Another alternative is the use of Clear + Brilliant every 8 to 10 weeks, which is essentially a mini-Fraxel laser treatment.

Are there any risks involved with laser freckle removal?

There are minimal risks involved when using our system of fractional laser. Compared to old-fashioned IPL, where risks include demarcation and skin colour changes (more common in ethnic skin types), our Fraxel lasers can be used on all skin types with no areas of demarcation. With the specialised rolling system, freckled areas can be blended into normal skin.*

Can freckles be removed from my arms using Fraxel?

Yes, they can though lasers and energy devices work best for freckles on the face.*

It’s important to note that treating extra-facial skin with laser or any other procedure will require more treatments. The skin is thicker in these areas than on the face, and the density of the laser must be reduced because there are lower units of hair follicles in these areas.

Realistically, you can expect that extra-facial freckles can be reduced by 30% to 60% after five fractionated laser resurfacing treatments.*

Can chemical peels be used to treat freckles?

Chemical peels are an old-fashioned method of treating freckles. Certainly, high-strength TCA peels can be used on the face; however, demarcation areas are frequent and this requires a specialist’s treatment in an operating theatre.

Low-to-medium-strength TCA peels can help diminish freckling by 30% to 40% and are not advised for areas outside the face.*
