Nasolabial Folds Brisbane

Nasolabial Folds

Nasolabial folds are the lines extending from your mouth to the sides of your nose. These lines tend to deepen and become more prominent with age. This is caused by skin laxity and a loss of fat and volume in that area. Volume loss in the cheeks can also deepen nasolabial
and facial folds.

The good news? Nasolabial folds are one of the easiest areas to correct using
dermal fillers.*

How do dermal fillers work in this area?

Dermal fillers are a by-product of sugar molecules which form a substance known as hyaluronic acid. When dermal fillers are placed in the nasolabial folds, they soften the lines and help to replenish overall volume. This equates to a natural-looking, more youthful appearance.*

How do I know if I am a good candidate for a nasolabial fold treatment?

An in-depth examination by our specialist injectors will reveal if you are a good candidate for nasolabial fold treatments. It is important to realise that all people will have a nasolabial fold and that the aim of treatment is to soften this area and not completely remove the fold, as this will look unnatural.

We’ve found that most adults are good candidates; however, realistic expectations and goals need to be considered. Nasolabial folds are more likely to occur in individuals over the age of 30. In some cases, they are genetic and hence tend to deepen earlier on in life compared to others. In almost all cases, we can volumise even the deepest nasolabial folds and reduce these lines.*

What fillers do we use to treat nasolabial folds?

Fillers can be made from either a hyaluronic acid or from substances such as poly-L-lactic acid. We use fillers that stimulate your body's own collagen rather than just replacing lost volume.

Depending on the age of the patient and the depth of the nasolabial folds, our specialists use both reversible HA fillers and collagen-stimulating fillers in this area. We also tend to use collagen-stimulating fillers in patients over the age of 50 or who have excessive sun damage.

In all cases, our specialists will guide you towards which filler is best for you.

Does filler treatment of the nasolabial folds hurt?

No, this treatment is extremely comfortable. In most cases, we use a cannula; however, in some areas (such as the base of the nose) we use a needle technique. Our fillers contain local anaesthetic so the pain is minimal.

How long does the treatment take?

This is a not a complex area to treat. The treatment of both nasolabial folds with dermal fillers can be completed within 10 to 15 minutes.*

When will I see results from the dermal filling treatment applied to my nasolabial folds?

This depends on the type of filler we use. For non-permanent HA fillers, results are seen instantly.

With fillers that stimulate collagen, you will notice an immediate improvement; however, the final results are seen three to four months after the placement of the filler. This is because the filler itself stimulates your body's own immune response to produce more collagen.

What are the possible risks & complications following dermal fillers?

Redness, swelling and tenderness may be felt after any filler treatment; however, the risk of bruising and swelling is minimal with our cannula filling techniques. If bruising appears, it usually disappears within four to five days.

Serious complications in this area are extremely rare; however, allergic reactions are known to occur in 0.01% of cases. If this occurs, we can use a reversible HA filler containing an enzyme known as Hylase, which can break up the problem-causing filler within minutes.
